Sir: The concern is real and alarming. Being fellow Trojan parent , you will appreciate that ACT /SAT scores may be necessary to make it to the first round of selection criteria. There are several other factors that carry just as much if not more significance. The preparation begins almost at middle school . Your consistency in improving in the areas of your passion eg sports , academics,particular are of interest that you can demonstrate passion and excellence. You have to

write an essay. You need to distinguish yourself . I am not sure if the process for foreign students is different ,here , even for us as parents , it was few years of journey of hard work. At the end , the suspense and thrill of opening those “ Admitted “envelopes from various Ivy League schools stays with you for a life time. You realize it was worth the cost.

What you say is very true. Your focus is on the journey of the individual. An outlier can outperform the statistics.

The data gleaned by me from the public domain and analysed is about comparing the similar set of students, on the threshold of college, over the the past few years. The decline is significant and worrisome.
