What a moving tribute and information. One can hardly claim to be a Punjabi if you did not grew up with folklore stories of Bhagat Singh . Whilst we all have heard about him ,but sadly read a little. There was not much literature or text book material as part of the curriculum available.
I really can’t recollect source of my knowledge and opinions formed about as result. I remember vividly after taking 10th grade exam 2-3 months gap before starting collet I read books About Kartar Singh Saraba (by Sohan Singh Josh ) , Hints of self culture ( by Lala Hardiyal M.A. himself) , book on Sohan Singh Bhakna ( only few articles not a book but glad to find a book later years Sohan Singh Bhakna- A Great Patriot by Gurcharan Singh Hansra.
Bhagat Singh , the only original source of information was his own authored ( hope Dhuri Municipality Library still has it ) Calle why I am an atheist . I still carry most of these books. These books and people remind me how selfless ,dedicated and believers these people were. Did they all get as much attention and recognition as others did. They all including Bose had different political leaning which was in variance with Congress and were deprived of ink in our curriculum, culture and folklore.
Bhagat Singh was and will remain a distinctive figure for history books, for his intellectual depth, his ideological clarity and willingness to sacrifice for a cause that he so deeply believed in- Freedom .
Sir: Thank you for reminding us of our hero.
Ps. You will be proud , I got all questions correct except the one his last name Sandhu . I remembered a different one
A martyrdom that will remembered for all times to come.
My true wish one day when this blue collar worker no longer needs to work , go back to middle and high school kids and share with children history of those unsung heroes of Punjab .
