What a crazy notion - you have an Indian passport and you are travelling as an Indian but you may not be an Indian citizen- totally illogical

Very informative. The article pushes the ideas that (1) there is no "OWNER" of citizenship definition; (2) there is no document which is conclusive; (3) SIR judgements suggest that MHA alone can grant citizenship, but then that is open for Court's intervention and inconsistent stands by different or same court in different cases. Who is a citizen who is not, how and why, will always remain mysteries in the context of India.

Having said that, this is not an issue for a common person. Courtesy the rampant corruption and vested political interests anyone can get any document, adhaar, PAN, or passport. While there could be reasons to deny these documents to an applicant, but then there are more compelling reasons to issue these documents.

Not sure if Adhaar was initially supposed to serve as an identity of an Indian.
