Guru Arjan Dev Ji declares that true wisdom, liberation, and inner healing are accessible to all, regardless of caste or background. The Naam transcends rituals, cures the deepest spiritual afflictions, and grants salvation even to the most lost. Yet, this treasure is not attained by effort alone—it is received through divine grace and destined merit.

Gurmukhi:
ਬੀਜ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਸਰਬ ਕੋ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
Hindi Transliteration (Devanagari): बीज मंत्रु सरब को गिआनु ॥
English Transliteration (Italicised): Beej manṫar sarab ko gi▫aan.
English Translation: The Beej Mantra, the Seed Mantra, is spiritual wisdom for everyone.

ਚਹੁ ਵਰਨਾ ਮਹਿ ਜਪੈ ਕੋਊ ਨਾਮੁ ॥

English Transliteration (Italicised): Chahu varnā mehi japai ko▫oo naam.
English Translation: Anyone, from any class, may chant the Naam.

English Translation: Whoever chants it, is emancipated.

English Translation: And yet, rare are those who attain it, in the Company of the Holy.

English Translation: Even beasts, ghosts and the stone-hearted are saved.

English Transliteration (Italicised): Kaahoo jugat kitai na pā▫ee▫ai dharam.
English Translation: It cannot be obtained by any religious rituals.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਮਿ ॥੫॥
Hindi Transliteration (Devanagari): नानक तिसु मिलै जिसु लिखिआ धुरि करमि ॥५॥
English Transliteration (Italicised): Nānak ṫis milai jis likhi▫ā dhur karam. ||5||
English Translation: O Nanak! He alone obtains it, whose karma is so preordained. ||5||

🪔 Essence of the Pauri:

This pauri radiates a universal and liberating truth: Naam is for all—transcending birth, caste, or ritual. Anyone who chants it can find liberation. However, this divine awareness is rare and blossoms only in the sacred company of the saints, and only when bestowed through divine grace. The Naam heals all ills, awakens the spiritually asleep, and uplifts even the most fallen. Yet, it eludes those who chase it mechanically through rites. It is not earned; it is gifted by the Divine, prewritten in one's destiny.
