Seventh Ashtapadi – Pauri 7

Introduction

In this seventh pauri, Guru Arjan Dev Ji reaffirms the miraculous power and sanctity of Saadh Sangat—the Holy Company. It becomes the medium through which the divine Name is heard, sung, remembered, and internalized. It is the gathering where God becomes sweet to the soul, visible in every heart, and the seeker transforms into a true servant of the Lord. This pauri is a spiritual celebration of the soul’s transformation through sacred association, culminating in freedom from spiritual disease and divine union granted by destiny.

1. ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੁਨਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
   साध कै संगि सुनउ हरि नाउ ॥
   Saaḋh kai sang suno har naao.
   Translation: In the Company of the Holy, listen to the Name of the Lord.

2. ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਉ ॥
   साधसंगि हरि के गुन गाउ ॥
   Saadhsang har ke gun gaao.
   Translation: In Saadh Sangat, sing the glorious praises of the Lord.

3. ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਬਿਸਰੈ ॥
   साध कै संगि न मन ते बिसरै ॥
   Saadh kai sang na man te bisrai.
   Translation: In the Holy Company, the Lord never departs from the mind.

4. ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਸਰਪਰ ਨਿਸਤਰੈ ॥
   साधसंगि सरपर निसतरै ॥
   Saadhsang sarpar nistarai.
   Translation: In the Holy Company, salvation is absolutely assured.

5. ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਗੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੀਠਾ ॥
   साध कै संगि लगै प्रभु मीठा ॥
   Saadh kai sang lagai prabh meetha.
   Translation: In the Holy Company, God becomes sweet and dear to the soul.

6. ਸਾਧੂ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਡੀਠਾ ॥
   साधू कै संगि घटि घटि डीठा ॥
   Saadhoo kai sang ghat ghat deetha.
   Translation: In the Holy Company, He is perceived in every heart.

7. ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਭਏ ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ॥
   साधसंगि भए आगिआकारी ॥
   Saadhsang bhae aagiaakaaree.
   Translation: In the Holy Company, one becomes obedient to God’s Will.

8. ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਗਤਿ ਭਈ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥
   साधसंगि गति भई हमारी ॥
   Saadhsang gati bhai hamaari.
   Translation: In the Holy Company, our spiritual emancipation is attained.

9. ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਟੇ ਸਭਿ ਰੋਗ ॥
   साध कै संगि मिटे सभि रोग ॥
   Saadh kai sang mite sabh rog.
   Translation: In the Holy Company, all spiritual and mental ailments are cured.

10. ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧ ਭੇਟੇ ਸੰਜੋਗ ॥੭॥
    नानक साध भेटे संजोग ॥७॥
    Nanak saadh bhete sanjog. ||7||
    Translation: O Nanak! Union with the Holy is a blessing of destiny. ||7||
