Sir,

There is nothing novel or shocking about this incident. It is yet another manifestation of the entrenched culture of police brutality, disregard for fundamental rights, and habitual misuse of authority. This pattern has existed for ages , and it does not take a CBI inquiry to affirm what even a bystander can recognize as misconduct. The offense is clear, and so is the usual outcome—silence, evasion, and impunity.

It must be acknowledged, however, that the induction of well-educated, conscientious young IPS officers has made a discernible difference at higher levels. But the real challenge lies at the grassroots—among the lower ranks of the force—where the urgent need for retraining, accountability, and strict adherence to lawful conduct is undeniable.

In the current case, action will likely be taken, not necessarily because justice demands it, but because the victim is an army Colonel, high-profile. The ordinary citizen, however, remains vulnerable—subject to the same unchecked excesses, with little hope for redress.

Lasting change will only come when police personnel are thoroughly trained on their responsibilities, held accountable for violations, and when citizens themselves are empowered and educated about their rights. Every instance of misconduct must be documented and made public. Only transparency and consistent accountability can begin to restore trust.

Simply transferring an SSP ( who literally has nothing to do with it) to another town will not move the needle. Structural reform, not cosmetic changes, is the need of the hour. My $0.02

Thank you !
