Four Years of The KBS Chronicle — A Note of Thanks and a Request for Your Feedback
Reflections on our journey so far — and a small request to readers as we look ahead to the coming years
Four Years of ‘The KBS Chronicle’
When I began this newsletter, The KBS Chronicle, exactly four years ago, I had no certainty that many people would be interested in reading the reflections and articles of a retired bureaucrat. It started as a modest effort—just an outlet for sharing ideas on issues close to my heart.
But from those humble beginnings, this newsletter has grown into something more meaningful. Over the past four years—and especially in the past year—thanks to the generous encouragement and support of friends, readers, and subscribers, the Chronicle now reaches thousands of readers.
Nearly 20% of our subscribers are based outside India, with about 17% located in the USA and Canada. For this, I offer my deepest thanks to all of you.
A Free Newsletter for All Readers
As we move forward on this shared journey, I wish to reaffirm that The KBS Chronicle will continue to remain free.
While some friends have very kindly opted for paid subscriptions—something for which I am truly grateful—please rest assured that all articles will remain freely available to everyone.
What I Write About — And Why Your Feedback Matters
Over time, the Chronicle has evolved to cover a wide range of topics:
Sikh history
Punjab politics
Indian politics
International geopolitics and strategy
Developments in artificial intelligence
Legal issues and constitutional cases
Some readers have appreciated this broad spectrum of writing, while others have suggested a more focused approach on niche issues. I have also received valuable feedback on the frequency of publication.
At this stage, your feedback is especially important. It will help guide how this newsletter evolves in the coming year.
I warmly invite you to write back with your honest thoughts, preferences, and suggestions for improvement. I would love to hear from you.
Important Note for Current Readers
Going forward, I wish to inform all readers that I will no longer be sending individual emails or posting links to each article in WhatsApp groups, Telegram groups, or other email groups.
If you have been following The KBS Chronicle through these channels, I would encourage you to subscribe directly to the newsletter so that future articles will automatically reach your inbox.
A Small Request on Subscriptions
If at any point you no longer wish to receive The KBS Chronicle, may I kindly request that you use the unsubscribe button—rather than marking the newsletter as spam.
When emails go unread or are flagged, it affects Substack’s algorithm and lowers visibility for other readers. I am happy to report that The KBS Chronicle enjoys a very healthy open rate, but there is always room for improvement!
In Closing — Thank You!
As ever, I remain deeply grateful for your encouragement and readership.
And if you happen to be reading this post and are not yet a subscriber, you are most welcome to sign up—free of charge—using the button below:

Where do I begin ? Firstly , you have demonstrated to all the retirees that retirement is not retreat rather second act of public service in the most dedicated, selfless and devoted manner.
Your write up unfolds to you like a calm voice rather than a sermon. Each line a window and each thought a lamp.
